A multi-vehicle accident shut down a portion of the H-3 freeway and sent black smoke billowing out of the Harano tunnel on Monday.
Police say the crash involved six-vehicles, and happened at the entrance of the tunnel in the Kaneohe-bound direction.
One vehicle caught fire and created a lot of smoke.
Honolulu-bound lanes of the tunnel were contra-flowed to help ease traffic.
Three people were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
