A 28-year-old Lahaina woman is in extremely critical condition after she was struck by a motorcycle early Thursday morning.
According to Maui police, the crash happened at about 1:45 a.m. on Honoapiilani Highway at the intersection of Hoohui Road in Lahaina.
Police say a 2006 black Kawasaki ZX 14, operated by a 46-year-old Lahaina man, was heading south on the highway when it struck the woman, who was not in a marked crosswalk.
The woman was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in extremely critical condition.
The operator of the motorcycle sustained a fractured right arm and was also taken to the hospital.
Police say alcohol possibly played a role in the crash. Speed is also suspected, but is still under investigation.
The first runner to cross the finish line of the 2013 Honolulu Marathon was Gilbert Chepkwony who finished in 2:18:47.
