On Tuesday, Chief United States District Judge Susan Oki Mollway sentenced 39-year-old John Lee Balberdi of Wailuku for being a leader and organizer of a conspiracy to distribute meth.
Balberdi has a previous felony drug conviction.
He was arrested and prosecuted after over 550 grams of pure methamphetamine was seized by Maui police in February 2009 from the Kahului residence of one of Balberdi's co-conspirators.
Balberdi admitted to distributing another 40 pounds of methamphetamine in furtherance of the conspiracy between March 2007 and February 2009.
The first runner to cross the finish line of the 2013 Honolulu Marathon was Gilbert Chepkwony who finished in 2:18:47.
Thousands gathered at the memorial to pay tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and to those who survived.
You may remember the story we did earlier this week about the Pearl Harbor survivor who was headed here from the mainland for the ceremony, he was bumped from the flight and didn't know if he would get here in time.
