A man in his 60s is in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle in Maili early Wednesday morning.
According to Honolulu police, the incident happened shortly after 1 a.m. on Farrington Highway north of Maipalaoa Road.
"Per our witness, the pedestrian was walking along the shoulder of the roadway when he stepped into the lane of traffic. He was struck by a vehicle being driven by a 20-year-old male," HPD Lt. Bobby Towne said.
Emergency personnel responded and transported the victim to the Queen's Medical Center.
Police do not believe the driver was speeding or under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor for the pedestrian.
Honolulu police closed a portion of Farrington Highway between Manununu Street and Maipalaoa Road while they investigated.
All lanes were reopened at about 4:15 a.m.
The case remains under investigation.
