Kauai Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho, Jr. signed the budget on Friday.
"The collaboration between administration and council during the budget process this year was unprecedented," said Kauai Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho, Jr. "We've been in discussions since last fall, and that made a huge difference during the six weeks of intense budget discussions that began in late March and resulted in a prudent and responsible budget for next year."
"We're pleased to participate in the signing. It's a true testament to the effort put forth by the administration and the council, and it emphasizes the collaboration that we committed to this budget session," said Kauai Council Chair Jay Furfaro.
The operating budget of $159 million represents a reduction of roughly 3.5 percent from the current fiscal year. The capital improvements (CIP) budget of $49.9 million represents a 22 percent reduction from the current year.
