Kalanianaole Highway reopens as storm victims begin clean up process

HONOLULU (KHON2) - Residents in East Oahu are cleaning up after heavy rain flooded dozens of homes.

The rain also forced the closure of Kalanianaole Highway in Wailupe due to debris and mud on the road.

All lanes of the highway were reopened at 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

The Honolulu Fire Department says it responded to 42 weather-related emergencies from 7:00-11:30 p.m. Saturday night.

A brown water advisory has also been posted for waters in east Oahu.  The Department of Health says heavy rains resulted in storm runoff entering the ocean.  The public is advised to stay out of flood waters due to possible overflowing cesspools, pesticides, and animal fecal matter associated with flood debris.

On Kauai, a portion of Kuhio Highway has been closed because of a landslide blocking both lanes of the highway.  The road closure is in effect about 1/2 mile north of Waikoko in Hanalei.  The Kuhio Highway at the Hanalei Bridge remains open at this time.
