A 37-year-old man who was injured in a surfing accident last month has died.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as Matthew Lufrano of Kailua.
According to Honolulu police, Lufrano was surfing at Kalama Beach on Aug. 31 when witnesses say he fell off his board. Shortly after, Lufrano was located in the water unconscious and unresponsive.
Lufrano sustained a cervical spine fracture and remained in the hospital's intensive care unit. He passed away Sunday afternoon.
Police say no suspicious circumstances were found.
An autopsy will be performed Monday to determine the exact cause of death.
