The Honolulu Fire Department rescue crews will search for a hiker at first light on Tuesday.
Two hikers started their journey at around 7 a.m. from the Moanalua side of the mountain. They got lost and they were trying to come down the opposite stairway. It was near the Stairway to Heaven but not on that trail.
The fire crews were called just before 6:30 p.m. Monday.
The 20-year-old injured hiker was rescued first, and looked at by emergency medical services. He is a visitor.
Crews looked for the second hiker who is uninjured, and by that time cloud cover dropped so he couldn't be seen. It is unclear if the second hiker is a visitor or local at this time.
