Maui firefighters responded to an unscheduled cane fire in Kihei.
The incident happened at about just after 1:30 p.m. Monday near the parking triangle area of North Kihei Road.
According to the authorities, the fire engulfed about half an acre when the crews arrived the scene.
The fire was extinguished just before 3 p.m.
Damage is estimated to be $2,500.
The cause of the fire was undetermined, but officials say it may have been intentionally set.
This fire is one of several recent unscheduled cane fires on Maui.
Over the weekend, nearly 26 acres were scorched near Holomua Road and Hana Highway.
