The Hawaii County Fire Department is investigating the cause of a house fire in Hilo that left two people dead.
The fire broke out shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday in a home on Wainaku Street.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the single-family home fully engulfed in flames with the roof partially collapsed.
"We did speak to residents in that particular area and one resident reported the fire itself," Hawaii Fire Department Capt. Robert Wagner said. "They noticed a large glow in that particular area."
The fire was extinguished at about 2 a.m.
Firefighters then discovered two bodies within the structure.
The victims have yet to be identified.
Damage is estimated at $150,000.
The exact cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
