The law enforcement community is mourning the loss of one of their own.
An off-duty Department of Defense police officer died after crashing his motorcycle Sunday afternoon.
The accident happened at about 1 p.m. on the Likelike Highway on-ramp to the H-3 Freeway westbound.
Honolulu police say the motorcyclist had been speeding and it appears while making the turn, his back tire locked up he lost control, and hit the guardrail.
Officials say the 47-year-old man was member of the Iron Circle Law Enforcement motorcycle club and had been out for a Sunday ride.
The victim was not wearing a helmet.
The on-ramp was closed while police investigated.
All lanes reopened at about 4:15 p.m.
Sources tell KHON2 that state Department of Health Director Loretta Fuddy died in a plane crash off Molokai.
Loretta Fuddy devoted 30 years to the health and human services industry.
