People brought their four-legged family members to be blessed on Sunday at Kotohira Jinsha-Dazaifu Tenmangu.
The blessing is held every year at this Shinto shrine to celebrate the love and faith of the loyal pets.
Kehau Takahashi's family has brought their dog here for the past five years.
"It is like a family," Takahashi said. "When you have your immunization or you go to your doctor's appointment. It's exactly the same. Bless them to make sure they are alright."
They even had shave ice just for pets.
It was all free and open to the public.
