Residents in the Kaimuki and St. Louis Heights areas may want to consider alternate routes downtown.
The city has plans for a major overhaul of a more than 80-year-old bridge.
The St. Louis Drive bridge has a lot of history. It was first built over Palolo Stream in 1929 and then -- using the city's term -- rehabilitated in 1958.
Traffic at times can be heavy as local residents make their way down St. Louis Drive to Waialae Avenue to head downtown.
It's the same area where a sinkhole appeared back in June.
The city says that's not the reason for the construction. But there it is.
Work on the bridge begins this month and should be completed by the end of the year.
This will mean an inconvenience for neighborhood residents.
Traffic will be allowed across the bridge during construction, but there will be delays.
