HONOLULU (KHON2) - Two days after torrential rain flooded the area, the clean up continues in many in the hardest hit areas of East Oahu.
Jaime Ramirez and his wife Lucy live in Niu Valley. Their home sits right on Kalanianaole Highway.
"So the water started coming in, we tried to stop it and we couldn't do it,” said Jamie. “It kept on coming and running and getting bigger and bigger and faster into the house.”
At the height of the flooding Friday night this area of Kalanianaole Highway had about two-and-a-half feet of water on it.
“You could see the water outside was building it wants this overflowed it just went everywhere bedrooms the kitchen and everything else,” said Jaime.
Jamie has lived in the home since 2001 and he's never seen anything even remotely close to what he witnessed Friday night.
“I was just so impressed to see that much water coming in,” said Jaime. “When I saw the highway like a river, I couldn't believe it and then water coming in gushing and never seen anything like it in my life.”
Like his neighbors on either side, Jamie says he's contacted his insurance company and will start doing paperwork Monday in hopes of covering what he lost.
“It could've been worse, nobody got hurt, that's the main thing,” said Jaime.
