Maui firefighters responded to a residential fire in Kaanapali late Wednesday night.
The incident happened around 11:15p.m. at Kaanapali Royale, a three-story complex on Kekaa Drive.
According to authorities, the fire started in the living area of a second-floor unit.
Officials say an 84-year-old man from Lahaina was transported to the hospital in critical condition with burns to his body.
Fire crews brought the fire under control within 15 minutes.
Officials say the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, but based on observations at the scene and circumstances, the fire is most likely an accidental fire.
Fire damages estimated at $180,000 to the 1,800 square foot two-bedroom two-bath unit with an estimated $20,000 in damages to its contents.
