Two people were hospitalized Thursday morning following a three-car crash on Kauai's Kaumualii Highway in the vicinity of Knudsen Gap.
According to police, a BMW sedan was traveling east on the highway at around 7:20 a.m. when it rear-ended a gray Toyota sedan that was stopped in traffic. The impact then caused that vehicle to hit the silver Toyota sedan stopped in front of it.
The 27-year-old female driver of the BMW sustained minor injuries and did not require treatment, but the 27-year-old female driver of the gray sedan and male operator of the silver sedan, age 63, were taken to Wilcox Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The eastbound lane of Kaumualii Highway was closed for about an hour. During the closure, officers directed one lane of alternating traffic flow.
The highway was reopened at around 8:30 a.m. when all vehicles could be cleared from the scene.
The first runner to cross the finish line of the 2013 Honolulu Marathon was Gilbert Chepkwony who finished in 2:18:47.
Airline officials say due to the wintry weather several flights to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and from there Sunday were cancelled.
A 3.8 magnitude earthquake happened just before 10:30 pm. Saturday at 6.1 miles east southeast of Holualoa on the Big Island according to the US Geological Society.
