Two endangered Hawaiian Hawks were recently shot and wounded on the Big Island.
The two hawks were brought to the Three Ring Ranch animal sanctuary with what appears to be wounds from a BB gun.
Both hawks are about one year old.
One was treated and released. The second hawk should be released in about a week.
Experts say a lack of education is leading to the shootings.
"It's a lack of education and respect for these creatures. Another thing we've heard in the past, the reasons that the birds are shot is ignorance and a young person with a BB gun going out and thinking its fun," said Anne Goodie, with Three Ring Ranch.
It is illegal to shoot a Hawaiian Hawk.
The first runner to cross the finish line of the 2013 Honolulu Marathon was Gilbert Chepkwony who finished in 2:18:47.
Dry weather conditions made for a great day as thousands of runners participated in the 41st Annual Honolulu Marathon. Those who ran inspired others to participate next year-- while those who cheered from the sidelines helped motivate them to keep running.
Airline officials say due to the wintry weather several flights to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and from there Sunday were cancelled.
