A $2.4 million emergency repair project on the 80-year-old Ihiihilauakea Bridge will be closing Kalanianaole Highway from Monday, Oct. 7, through Friday, Oct. 11.
The closures will be between Lunalilo Home Road and Kealahou Street from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Traffic will be contraflowed in the area except for Tuesday, Oct. 8, when there will be a full road closure.
The state Department of Transportation asks the public to use Lunalilo Home Road and Kealahou Street as alternate routes.
The Ihiihilauakea Bridge project includes the repair of concrete cracks and spalls, installation of fiberwrap reinforcing, and painting.
In 2009, the Bridge Inspection Report rated the bridge a 4 (severe condition).
Thousands gathered at the memorial to pay tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and to those who survived.
You may remember the story we did earlier this week about the Pearl Harbor survivor who was headed here from the mainland for the ceremony, he was bumped from the flight and didn't know if he would get here in time.
It may take drivers a little longer to get around this weekend. On Sunday, there will be lane and road closures for the Honolulu Marathon.
