Record returns of unclaimed property to Hawaii residents

By KHON2 News

A record return for the 2008 fiscal year---getting unclaimed property back into the hands of their rightful owners.

According to the State Department of Budget and Finance more than 9,700 claims totaling nearly $6-million were paid to individuals and businesses.

They say that's the highest number of claims in one year. The state still holds more than $140-million in abandoned or unclaimed property like bank accounts, stocks, even unclaimed checks.
