Action Line Consumer Alert: Recalled Items of July 14-18

By Vanessa Stewart

Keeping up with the safety standards of consumer products can be quite a task.

In this week's Action Line Consumer Alert we look at recalled items from ready to eat frozen food to garden equipment.

If you buy a lot of frozen food you may want to listen up. Nestle's Prepared Foods Division has voluntarily recalled "Lean Pockets Spinach Artichoke Chicken" after complaints it may contain pieces of plastic. Check for a "best before date" of November 2009.

Another recall, two styles of "Youth Bed Toy Chests" sold at Costco. Maker Bayside Furnishings recalled the chests after the death of a child in California. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the lid of the toy chest fell on the back of the child's head. Replacement lids are available through the manufacturer.

Some jewelry for young girls is also being recalled. It affects you if you bought, "Faded Glory" lip gloss, locket and bracelet sets at Wal-mart between May and June of this year. The bracelet clasp contains high levels of lead which is toxic if swallowed.

And finally, Honda Motor Corporation has recalled its lawn mowers. The company says the shield can break off. So far, no injuries are reported. The mowers have "Honda" written on the bag and were sold at Home Depot stores nationwide between October of last year and June of this year.

If you have a consumer concern, you can contact Action Line. The number is 591-0222. They are also looking for volunteers. If you are interested, please give them a call.
