Local boy Matthew Hashimoto moved to the mainland to pursue his career goal of becoming a dentist.
But the Roosevelt High School graduate is ditching his scrubs to perform in front of millions on the Oprah show.
Matthew is one of eight finalists competing for the title of America's best karaoke singer.
Round one of the competition airs Thursday, November 5 at 4 p.m. on KHON2.
Help send Matthew to the next round by either calling in your vote or going online.
You can call #1-866-874-2502 to vote for Matthew, and you can do so more than once.
Telephone calls to the voting lines are toll-free from landlines, so you will not be charged to vote.
If you use a cell phone to call, airtime and applicable roaming and long-distance charges will apply.
You can also log onto www.oprah.com to cast your vote online.
The voting period ends at midnight central time (8 p.m. Hawaii standard time).
Tune in Friday, November 6 to see who makes it the finals.
