The city medical examiner identified the man as Clifford Cuban of Kapolei.

The cause of death was a broken neck due to injuries he suffered in the crash on the H-1 Sunday night.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. in the east-bound direction on the H-1 freeway between the Makakilo and North-South Road.

According to police, the driver of a truck tried to overtake a car using the left shoulder lane, which consisted of loose dirt and grass.

The truck went out of control, crossed three lanes of traffic then slammed into a Mustang that was in the far right lane.

The truck then veered left, crossing three lanes again and hit the median.

The truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the mustang, a 34-year-old man, and his 24-year-old female passenger were taken to the hospital in guarded condition.

Police say speed may have been a factor.

Speeed a factor...more like stupidity! What the hell you thinking by overtaking on the shoulder lane anyway? What if there was another HPD officer giving a ticket at the time? Survival of the smartest won this time around.

People SLOW DOWN!!! There's no place that you have to be at that you risk the chance of harmming or killing yourself or others... My condolences go out to the Cuban family.

ya THINK that speed might be a factor? idiot was in the left lane, then tried to overtake another car by driving onto the shoulder. guarans he was doing in excess of 70. idiot then loses control on all that grass and rocks and slams into innocent driver in the right lane. hopefully, the two people in the mustang recuperate quickly.

Although this time the driver wasn't in the Mustang, this is the 3rd serious accident in the last 2-3 days involving one. First one was Jamba Juice, second was the one that rolled. Wassup wit dat?

That's HPD in action... They move at a snails pace unless they're behind the wheel... Then it's watch out, coming through... Bunch of crooks.
