The University of Hawaii Professional Assembly (UHPA) Board of Directors voted Saturday to endorse Ed Case for the U.S. Senate and Mufi Hannemann for the U.S. Congressional District 2.

UHPA represents nearly 4,000 faculty members at 10 campuses in the University of Hawaii system statewide.  In a press release, UHPA officials say the UHPA Political Endorsement Committee interviewed the Democratic candidates running for congressional seats over the past few weeks, focusing questions on funding for public higher education and the challenges facing faculty and students locally and across the nation.

UHPA says the endorsement decision was based on who could best represent the interests of the University of Hawaii faculty, the students, and the role of public higher education in Congress, now and into the future.

Case is running against Rep. Mazie Hirono in the primary for the U.S. Senate.  They will be vying for the seat that will be vacated as a result of the retirement of veteran Senator Daniel Akaka. Former governor Linda Lingle is the only Republican candidate vying for the same seat.

Hannemann is running against Tulsi Gabbard, Esther Kia`aina, and Bob Marx in the Democratic primary. They are vying for the seat that will be vacated by Rep. Mazie Hirono.

The UHPA endorsed Mufi? I guess they have a very short memory or don't mind that he negatively compared Abercrombie's lowly UH education with his own -- ahhh hemmmm - HARVARD degree.

Looks like 'ole Mufi must have bullied UH into their endorsement; the same way he does everything - deception, delusion and arm twisting.

Headline should read: "Ivory Tower residents endorse Ivory Tower residents".

Hannemann is one of the worst, and most corrupt politicians around. Wish he would be banned from politics.

So the dysfunctional and corrupt UHPA endorses two career politicians who, time and time again, have screwed the people of Hawai'i over? Auwe...

I think it is rather unprofessional of the Professional Assembly to be handing out political endorsements.
