It was more than two years ago when 19-year-old Raelynn Adams was killed, run over by a car in a fast food restaurant drive-thru.The man who was at the wheel, Albert Birmingham, pleaded guilty to numerous charges.
Raelynn Adams family and friends have been hurting for some time now.
"Yesterday was two years that we held the funeral for her. And there's not a day that goes by that I don't think about the incident,” said Kimo Venne, Raelynn’s boyfriend.
Albert Birmingham was at the drive-thru in McDonalds in Nanakuli when he honked his horn repeatedly at the car in front.
A car Raelynn was in with her boyfriend Kimo.... An altercation occurred between the men, with Raelynn out of the car trying to intervene.
"I'm responsible for my behavior, but he's ultimately responsible for her death. And trying to get justice for that is what we're here for,” said Venne.
Birmingham drove out of the drive-thru and ran over Adams, killing her.
The 38-year-old Birmingham pleads guilty to negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving on a suspended license.
He will be sentenced in April.
"The ten years is the maximum he can do. The most is he has to do is three years, four months,” said Venne. "I know the family is not happy. I'm not happy, but the law, or the legal system, is the legal system. It is what it is."
Birmingham has previous DUI arrests and convictions.
He was driving on that deadly night without a license, a license which had been suspended due to a 2009 DUI.
"We've already suffered for the last two years having to deal with this. If anyone is winning in this case right now it's him,” said Venne.
Now the family is left remembering the young lady they lovingly called Aloha.
"Very sweet, loving, always a smile,” said Venne. “And she's going to be missed. She's definitely going to be missed."
