Shell Va'a tops Molokai Hoe for 5th year

Tahiti's Shell Va'a takes first place at the 59th annual Molokai Hoe outrigger canoe paddling race.

The team battled the treacherous Kaiwi Channel to complete the 41-mile course from Molokai's Hale O Lono Harbor to Waikiki's Duke Kahanamoku Beach in four hours and 35 minutes, three minutes faster than their old record.

The first Hawaii team to reach the finish was Team Primo, which placed fifth overall.
