The price for passports has just gone up.

While the application used to be $55, it now is $70; the passport's security surcharge doubled from $20 to $40; and adding new pages to passports now costs $82 - that part used to be free.

Officials say the fee is needed to offset the cost of the pages, the time spent putting the pages into the passport book, endorsing the passport and performing a quality-control check.

Comes with supply and demand. Come March people will need a picture ID or passport with certain other paper documents to show one is an American Citizen to renew their license. Figured sooner or later this would happen. Now everyone will get a piece of the pie. Others will get only the crumbs.
