Thanksgiving is right around the corner.
“I got my turkey two weeks ago, or when ever the sale went on I got my turkey,” said Foodland shopper Barbara Wiemer
You may want to follow Barbara's lead and plan ahead this year.
Heavy rains on the mainland destroyed pumpkin crops , which means there is a shortage of pumpkin pie.
“Oh it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie,” said Wiemer.
Pumpkin puree provider Libby's says "We may deplete our inventory of canned Libby's pumpkin as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday. If only we could have changed the weather! We hope Mother Nature is nicer to us next year, hopefully delivering less rain and more sunshine. If you are unable to find Libby’s 100 percent Pure Pumpkin at your local grocers, we apologize and hope you will understand.”
Libby's cans are on the shelf at the Foodland on Beretania Street, but they're going fast.
“Yeah a lot of them, we've been going out like crazy restocking,” said Beretania Foodland manager Kiana Goo.
“Oh yeah plenty we sold two cases in about less than an hour. Get 12 in a case,” said Foodland employee Kevin Kanazawa.
At Don Quijote in Ala Moana, it's obvious shoppers are planning to make pumpkin pie. The Libby’s display has several cans missing.
“It would be really sad, I would have to make pecan pie and that's not the same,” said Don Quijote shopper Loraine Timoshiki.
If you don't make it to the store on time to grab a can, you can always grab a pie, both Don Quijote and Foodland say they have ordered an ample supply to meet their customers needs this Thanksgiving.
Pumpkin pie is a top seller this time of year, so you better shop fast.
