There are several bills at the state legislature dealing with the labeling of genetically modified organisms.. or GMOs.

In the past those bills have not succeeded.

So today.. demonstrators erected this altar on capitol grounds in favor of GMO labeling.

"That's why we worked all day putting up the ki'i, building our ahu, to bring people to realize that we need to label our food and we need to know what we are eating, especially if it is GMO's. And right now, we don't have that opportunity. We don't know we are eating. " says Walter Ritte, Molokai activist.

Most of the bills deal with plants.. specifically taro.

There are two that deal with GMO fish.
