Everyone needs a little color in life.
"Currently all cables that ship with the apple iphone, ipad and ipod are all white, every once in while you can find a black one, I just thought I wouldn't say it was discriminating but it was just kind of boring in some sense," says Laurens Laudowicz, Juicies creator.
Kaimuki resident Laurens Laudowcz is anything but boring he came up with an environmentally friendly way to reinvent the apple charging cord while bringing color to your fingertips.
"Those are going to be made from recycled plastic so we actually going to be using the plastic that comes from your bottles etc that you see at home that's going to go in here," says Laudowcz.
And the cord itself is made from rubber which is biodegradable.
"That's going to be the worlds first time for a manufacturer to make sustainably sourced cables," says Laudowcz.
The father of three used to own an import company that went out of business after the building they were in flooded, for the past two years he has worked as a green consultant and today he launches his new business making what he has named Juicies.
"Well that juice kinda got stuck because data and energy is sort of like juice, sort of flows through there and then I was thinking of juice, Juicies and then Juicies was sort of something that I thought was cool," says Laudowcz.
The colored power cords were inspired by his lifelong passion to live green and the everyday frustrations of mixing up the wrong charging cords belonging to other devices.
"And so we ended up taking a sharpie and writing on the little plastic chord ipad and there was this you know thought one of these things would help," says Laudowcz.
The product comes in 12 colors, sells for $20 a piece and ships worldwide.
"Currently all cables in the world are made from new plastic content and I figured that if one manufacturer starts making these in a sustainable way then perhaps others will follow suit," says Laudowcz.
