Maui officials say shortly before noon Tuesday high winds knocked down a tree that brought down two electrical lines on Hana Highway near Kanaha Pond Sanctuary resulting in a power outage that is currently affecting businesses on Hana Highway, parts of Kahului Industrial area and East Kamehameha Avenue.

MECO crews are on the scene conducting repairs as quickly and safely as possible.

Seems on Maui the high Kona or Trade winds do some damage to utility poles and electrical wires recently on a regular bases, due to Maui's system is getting "OLD". Maui is windier than Chicago. Oahu has water pipe problems. Happens when many home owners drink water at the same time. LOL. Oahu has always been the older of Islands South.
