Aloha Stadium Tailgating Thefts

By Brianne Randle

Fans are firing up the barbecue - setting up to tailgate at Aloha Stadium.

But when the party heads inside, thieves are scoping out the parking lot.

"We came out from the game, came back to our stuff and a lot of our stuff was gone, like our tent, some of our barbecue stuff and chairs," says Jason Ancheta.

About one-hundred dollars worth of gear. The Ancheta family says they never expected to get ripped off.

"Yeah it's pretty bad this year, it wasn't like this before," says Ancheta.

"I mean a lot of people leave their stuff out, so we figured it would be safe," says Claire Ancheta.

Stadium officials say at the last home game there were three reported car break-ins. Compared to none the entire last season.

But they believe many more thefts may have gone unreported.

"Never crossed my mind that someone would actually steal your tent," says Melody Nakamura.

"We always usually leave our stuff out and never had a problem," says Grant Johiro.

"Unbelievable, it's ohana over here, we can't be doing stuff like that," says Doreen Mero.

Mero's friends also got their gear stolen last home game.

"Of course they were shocked when they came back, they left it when they went to the game and came back it was all missing," says Mero.

Thieves have even been ripping off beer.

"Our cooler was empty and only ice no beer," says Eric Muller. "Probably a cold pack maybe a case is what it was."

Stadium Security, Police and Sheriff's are stepping up their patrols. But fans say that may not be enough.

"They can't be all in one place at the same time, I guess people just have to be careful," says Johiro.

"This game we're gonna put everything away right, " says Ancheta.

"Lock your things, be safe because we're all here to have fun," says Mero.

"Put your things away before you go into the game cause because when you come out it might be gone," says Ancheta.

Stadium officials say if any valuables are taken - report it to police. The more information they have the better they can track down the thefts.
