Wild Session Closes Bad Week on Wall Street

By KHON News

Wall Street capped one of its worst weeks ever with a wild session today.

The Dow Jones industrial average lost 128points, closing at 8,451.

The blue chips had a combined eight-day loss of almost 2,400 points.

The Nasdaq gained four points today to close at 1,649.

The losses on Wall Street this week were staggering, but analysts say the worst may be over.

Wall Street’s wild ride crashed into Friday with the Dow Jones industrial average down 128 points, down 18 and a half percent for the week down 40 percent from the markets peak last year.

But Federated Global investment management senior vice president Phil Orlando says it may soon be over.

"We are a lot closer to the bottom than we were months ago we got through September and at this point we are within five percent of the bottom and hopefully better times are ahead,” said Orlando.

Not before wiping out trillions of dollars in 401ks, IRAs and other investments here in the United States and markets across the globe.

Tokyo was down Friday more than 10 percent, Frankfurt down seven percent, and London down almost 9 percent.

Foreign tourists gathered at the famous charging bull steps from the New York stock exchange are worried just like Americans.

“Everyone’s worried because we want to know where the end game is or when its all going to be over and what’s in it for us,” said tourist, Robert Rutherford.

Economists say a global slow down for some recession for others.

But as economies across the globe run out of fuel so does the price of oil closing below $78 for the first time in a year.

Attention now turns to international finance ministers gathering in Washington to see if they can coordinate a global economic rescue plan.

Traders say it’s needed but doubt they’ll get it
