One of the co-founders of the music group BET pled guilty today to drug charges in federal court.

Joe Daniels, also known as JD, faces at least a ten year sentence for possesion and intent to sell charges.

Joe Daniels Junior helped start the group BET in 1993, BET stands for Big Every Time.

BIG is the word a federal prosecutor used to describe the amount of meth found in Daniels' home during a February raid.

"And in his words he was told it was small amounts, never more than five or ten pound increments. And of course the parcels we seized had 48.9 pounds of pure methamphetamine hydrochloride," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Tom Muehleck.

With an estimated value of a million and a half dollars.
Daniels and two others were arrested and charged in the case.
One defendant's case is still ongoing.
Daniels and another have pleaded guilty.

In federal court today Daniels told Judge Kevin Chang "I knew drugs were stored in my apartment."

"Admitted that he had received money on three occasions to store it there, admitted that he knew the parcels that he carried into the house that morning on February 9th contained meth amphetamine," said Muehleck.

Drugs shipped to Hawaii using FedEx.

DEA agents raided Daniels home in February, and the BET front man told Judge Chang,
"They searched the home, and there were extra drugs in my house."

Daniels now awaits sentencing.
He will get at least a ten year mandatory minimum.

This is a serious offense, and we'll ask for a serious sentence."
The sentencing is set for January 2nd in front of Judge Helen Gilmor.
