Woman Found Beaten in her Ewa Beach Home

By Ron Mizutani

Honolulu police have opened an attempted murder case after an Ewa Beach woman was found by her husband beaten in their townhouse.

Police say the husband made the discovery shortly before four this morning.

Honolulu Police and emergency crews were called to the home of Lincoln and Tara Phillips just early Wednesday morning.

"Shortly before 4 a.m. This morning a husband reported returning home -- finding his 36-year-old wife in residence suffering from severe head trauma," said Major Alan Bluemke.

Sources say 35-year-old Lincoln Phillips told police the garage door was open.

36-year-old Tara Phillips was sent to Queen's Medical Center in critical condition with head injuries. Sources say it appears she was struck with a blunt instrument.

"A possible weapon was recovered.">

Police would not comment on whether there were any signs of a forced entry or where the husband was returning from.
Neighbors who asked to remain anonymous, say they heard yelling come from the home Tuesday night -- one even heard a loud boom. Sources say a son told police his parents had been arguing a lot lately. The Phillips home has been on the real estate market for several months.

Cassandra Henfield, the family's pastor says she was stunned by the incident. She says the couple's two sons -- an 11-year-old and a 15-year-old -- were at home at the time of the crime.

"Yes the children were home sleeping -- and from what I know -- they say they was awakened by the police that came into the home," said the family's pastor Cassandra Henfield.

"Working hard military and civilian wife."

Lincoln Phillips was interviewed at the Kapolei Police Station for several hours. Henfield says she will help care for the two sons until a grandmother arrives from Florida Thursday.
