Democratic National Convention Day 2

By Gina Mangieri

It was an action-packed day for Hawaii delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

It's day 2 of the conventions here in denver and the story today is the almost candidate Hillary Clinton, and also some big news for Hawaii."

On the 88th anniversary of women securing the right to vote, events at the convention were all about women leaders.

The hottest ticket in town at least midday wasn't at the Pepsi Center, it was here at the Emily's list gala, 2,500 people to hear Hillary Clinton."

From the Hawaii Delegation, Colleen Hanabusa, "And you have Nancy Pelosi, the first woman, and you have Michelle Obama."

Hanabusa continued-look how far we've come, but at the same time look at how much further we have to go.

Later at the convention podium Hillary Clinton spoke to a crowd peppered with many delegates still strongly backing her.

Colleen Hanabusa says, "I believe that Hillary Clinton's speech did exactly what the DNC and the campaign wanted, important thing is to be unified."

"She is such an amazing woman, put a crack in ceiling, maybe I could be president of the United States," says Kari Luna of the Hawaii Delegation.

And making it on to the democratic platform this year, federal recognition for native Hawaiians, the Akaka Bill.

Colleen Hanabusa says,"The fact that you have native hawaiians recognized alongside native americans is really a major statement."

But perhaps the biggest surprise of the day, Senator Joe Biden showing up at Hawaii's hotel to meet with the Delaware Delagation."

John Daniello of the Delaware Democratic Party Chairman says, "All of a sudden, he has to have a motorcade escort him just to talk to people at the train station."

"He made it a point to come here with his whole family... we're totally juiced."

Among security concerns an assassination plot targeting Barrack Obama at his Thursday night speech at Invesco field."

Our Gina Mangieri will be in Denver this week, and in Minneapolis next week.
