Contaminated Pet Food Settlement

Contaminated Pet Food Settlement

By KHON News

Hawaii is home to the first settlement of a class-action lawsuit over contaminated pet food.
The agreement sets up a $240,000 fund to compensate pet owners up to $300 if they bought recalled "menu foods" items or up to $150 if they had their pets undergo a veterinary exam.
All other claims against menu foods on the mainland were merged into one class-action suit.
"We wanted to make sure that any recovery comes back to the state of hawaii and the national settlement, if there's any money left over, there's no guaranty that our state would get its fair share," said Consumer Attorney Thomas Grande.
Consumers must provide receipts and register for any claims by July 17th.
Ten other claims on behalf of pets who were injured or died are being handled in separate litigation. Trial is set for april 2009.
