It was a special Mother's Day present for women in prison and their children.

Some haven't been able to spend time together for years.

Behind these chain linked fences and barbed wire, there's a sense of home.

This Mother's Day is one of four days out of the year that these incarcerated women can share with their children.

"This is my first Mother's Day I had her September," says Christina Riley, an inmate Women's Community Correctional Facility.

Riley says since that day in prison, when she gave birth to her baby, she has found a new life in herself.

"She's my inspiration and it's the first time in my life that I really wanted to stay clean i'm tired of running the streets, tired of making excuses," she says.

The warden says that's one of the reasons why they have Kids Day.

"You never really appreciate something until you no longer have it," says Mark Patterson, the Warden.

This time together helps to re-establish the bond between the mother and child and maybe most importantly the child with the mother.

It's been a year and a half since Hailey got to spend time with her mom, who has been away at the Otter Creek Correctional Facility in Kentucky.

"She's always in my heart," says Hailey.

The warden says children of incarcerated mothers are often a segment of the population that gets overlooked.

And statistics show that many of these children end up in the criminal justice system themselves.

Thats a cycle--together they want to break.

And if anything can help mend it....it's love.

"I love her and miss her," says Shelly Souza.

"I'm going to sit down and talk to her and just love her shes' so cute," says Riley.
