Clinton Presses On, Obama Receives Support from Democratic Lawmakers

By KHON News

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is urging her supporters to ignore calls for her to drop out of the race.

But that's not stopping speculation that her days as a presidential candidate are numbered.

She may not be conceding the race, but anyone watching Barack Obama at the U.S. Capitol today would have had no trouble figuring out who Democratic lawmakers think the victor will be, or maybe already is.

Barack Obama was on CapitolHhill this morning with the aura, though not the votes, of a presidential nominee.

So, is she putting together an exit strategy?

A Clinton insider replies n-o, exclamation point!

“This is a little like deja vu all over again. Some in Washington wanted us to end our campaign and then I won New Hampshire. I am running to be president of all 50 states,” said Clinton.

The two day itinerary backs her up – West Virginia, to South Dakota to Oregon to Kentucky.

She needs a 9.0 on the political richter scale to shake this up in her favor.

One Clinton adviser says she's not campaigning in some kind of parallel universe.

She doesn't think this is over.

“I am winning Catholic voters and Hispanic voters and blue collar workers and seniors the kind of people that Senator McCain will be fighting for in the general election,” said Clinton.

Another source close to the Clintons adds there is more to this than math.

She has a loyalty to the history she and her supporters are writing.

“Too many people have fought too hard to see a woman continue in this race, this history-making race and I want everybody to understand that,” said Clinton.

It is her supporters, including millions of women that give caution to many Democrats, and the Obama campaign.

They need those votes in the fall.

They cannot be seen trying to muscle her out.

Obama said Clinton is a formidable candidate who is likely to win 2 of the remaining 6 primaries, those in West Virginia and Kentucky.

Analysts say even if she does, she will not win enough delegates to overtake Obama.
