The County of Maui's Department of Environmental Management reported a wastewater overflow in Kihei Monday morning.
The 56 gallons of overflow was reported at about 9 a.m. The overflow stopped at about 11 a.m.
Officials say wastewater flowed out of three manholes fronting the Southpointe Apartments at 480 Kenolio Road.
Approximately 40 gallons entered a nearby storm drain, but no wastewater reached the ocean.
Officials say the overflow was caused by grease in the mainline.
DEM crews on the scene cleared the mainline, removed all standing wastewater, and disinfected the spill site.
The Department of Health was also notified.
Thousands gathered at the memorial to pay tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and to those who survived.
You may remember the story we did earlier this week about the Pearl Harbor survivor who was headed here from the mainland for the ceremony, he was bumped from the flight and didn't know if he would get here in time.
It may take drivers a little longer to get around this weekend. On Sunday, there will be lane and road closures for the Honolulu Marathon.
