Roof ventilation is vital to your roof's long term health. Heat and moisture gather in an unventilated roof. This build-up may eventually lead to structural damage or the warping of your shingles. Roof vents can help prevent this from occuring. Proper venting amounts depend on the construction codes in your area. Usually, one square foot of vent is needed for every 150 square feet of attic flooring. Many different styles of vents are available. A continuous ridge vent runs the length of your home's peak. It's easy to install and vents the entire roof with minimal holes. Soffit vents are located in the eves of your home, while hooded vents are located randomly acrossed your roof. The style of your house may allow you to install gable vents through the attic walls to cool your roof. Making sure your roof is properly vented may extend your roof's life. For more information on roof ventilation, contact a roofing specialist.
