Auto insurance premiums are based on the driving record and age of the primary driver for each vehicle. Adding a teenage driver to your insurance could double or even triple your insurance premiums. You can lower your premiums by thinking ahead. You'll probably only be required to insure the teenager on one vehicle, which will not affect premiums on your other vehicles. Your insurance company may offer you a discounted premium, if your teenager takes defensive driving course. You may also list your teenager as an occasional driver if they drive the car less than fifty percent of the time. A clean driving record will help to keep your premiums low, be sure your teenager understands the importance of driving safely. You should notify your insurance company if your teenager moves out of your home and will no longer be driving your cars. Contact an insurance agent in your area for more information.
