If you hear a high-pitched squeak emanating from the front wheels while the car is in motion, it's probably a 'brake wear indicator' telling you it's time to replace your brake pads. Don't let this minor repair job turn into an expensive brake overhaul. Have your brake pads replaced as soon as possible. Another sign of faulty brakes is a brake pedal that feels spongy or depresses down too close to floor before engaging. You should do a month-to-month check of the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. Consistent low levels of brake fluid mean a serious problem, and you should have the brake system inspected immediately. When the brake warning light comes on, don't ignore it. It could mean a loss of brake fluid, air in the lines, a leak in the system, or the need for a parking brake adjustment. Read your owner's manual for specifications.
