Lokahi Giving Project

Holy Family Catholic Students Donate to Lokahi

Students at Holy Family Catholic Academy are showing their Lokahi.
This is the end of a successful community service project by Karen Dixon's 8th grade class at Holy Family Catholic Academy.
The students chose to support our Lokahi Giving Project, and put a lot of thought and heart into what they'd do.
They learned that thousands of Hawaii families helped by Lokahi don't have basics most of us take for granted- like soap, towels, deodorant, and toothpaste.
"It's pretty shocking. Me coming up in a military family, having it is just having it," said Holy Family student Brian Freeman.
They started by sewing backpacks.
Then, asked for donations to fill up their handmade bags.
"We made newsletters, sent it out to parents and teachers. We went around each class and explained about our project and asked them to bring in play-doh for little kids because it's easier," said student Sarah Leong.
Markers and notebooks came in, along with boxes of hygienic products.
'Working on this Lokahi project I felt really happy because we're giving back to the kids who don't have a lot of things as we do. We learned to appreciate our things more. We learned to help people in need."
They've outdone themselves- donating 80 bags, filled with love and supplies that will go to those who will truly appreciate them.
