Every holiday season there are many touched by Lokahi who return to the program with their roles often reversed.

Desi McKenzie's enthusiasm as leader of Hawaii Youth Chorus is contagious.

She puts the same energy into Lokahi.

"We weren't asking for anything but the community just stepped forward. My daughters were presented with gifts Christmas eve." said Desi McKenzie of the Hawaii Youth Chorus.

Lokahi reached out to her in 2001.

At the time, Desi's marriage was on the rocks, her business was shaky, and her special needs daughter was going in for surgery again.

Lokahi givers gave her a lift when she needed it most.

"I just thought if I could do something, maybe not financially, but through my choral program and teach my children the importance for being there for the community, we can raise another generation of philanthropists," said Desi.

For five years running, Hawaii Youth Chorus has kicked off our Lokahi day concert at Ala Moana Center.

Look for these smiling faces and sweet voices, Saturday at 10 AM.

Windward Mall holds its first Lokahi drive, with Kathy Muneno accepting donations.

Kirk and Linda will be back at Prince Kuhio Plaza in Hilo, while Jai Cunningham represents Lokahi at Keauhou's Shopping Center drive during the day, and for the Waimea parade at night.

Chorus members have been given homework-- to invite at least five people to drop off a Lokahi donation.
