Lokahi: History & How to Help

The Lokahi Giving Project was created by Mariellen Jones and Leslie Wilcox in 1985. Their mission was simple: to provide a hand up to the "gap group" ineligible for other assistance and to relieve the burden of families and individuals who suffer an unforeseen crisis.

Today, it's a year-round volunteer-driven program that serves deserving recipients referred by over 250 different participating non-profits, group homes, hospitals, and social service agencies statewide.

WHO WE ARE:

Lokahi is a unique partnership between the State's number one news station, KHON TV, and Keiki O Ka Aina Family Learning Centers.

PROGRAMS

Our Adopt A Family program pairs generous donors with struggling residents. We match a wide range of individual donors as well as social groups, businesses and schools who wish to share the Lokahi spirit with families or seniors who really need some holiday cheer and basic necessities. Everyone can find a way to participate in a way that meets their resources and desire to help.

Our Emergency Assistance program provides year-round financial assistance for medical bills, utilities, housing costs, and other necessary expenses when residents are met with an unforeseen crisis.
