A weak cold front will reach Kaua'i late Saturday night, bringing scattered showers, then stall near Maui Sunday night. It will bring quite a few clouds and some showers but overall rainfall accumulations will be light.
A stronger cold front will reach Kaua'i Tuesday night and move quickly through the islands, passing Hawai'i island on Wednesday. The upper-level atmosphere will be more unstable than it is now so the front will produce more widespread and heavier showers.
Strong westerlies will be ahead of the front and strong, cool northerly winds will be behind the front. Tradewinds will return on Thursday and stay with us through the weekend.
An advisory level northwest swell is expected to start arriving Sunday night, then a bigger, northwest swell, well above warning levels should arrive Tuesday night and keep surf at warning levels through Thursday. At its peak, it should reach 30 to 40 foot faces; however, strong northerly winds on Wednesday will make for poor and very dangerous conditions.
