The city Department of Emergency Management sent an advisory to avoid Ala Moana Boulevard to Waikiki travel unless absolutely necessary.

McCully and Kapahulu remain best Waikiki access during APEC.

Authorities also closed Beretania Street for a brief time Friday morning for the arrival of Russia's president as he makes his way from Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam to Waikiki.

City Press Release:

The Department of Transportation Services is alerting the public that APEC-related closures of Kapiolani Boulevard between Atkinson Drive and Kalakaua Avenue and Atkinson Drive between Kona Street and Kapiolani Boulevard will continue on Friday, November 11, 2011.  Accordingly, TheBus routes 3, 9, and A will continue to be detoured.

Security measures will be implemented on Ala Moana Boulevard, Koko Head of Atkinson Drive from 5 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2011.  This will require implementation of the weekend bus detours involving TheBus routes 8, 19, 20, 42, E, 23, 24, 201, 202, and 203.

Routes 19, 20, 42, and E will terminate at Ala Moana Center instead of entering Waikiki.  Routes 23 and 24 will terminate in Waikiki instead of continuing to Ala Moana Center.  Route 8 will continue to connect Ala Moana Center and Waikiki except it will use Kalakaua Avenue to do so instead of Ala Moana Boulevard

All passengers on routes 19, 20, 42, and E will need to transfer to route 8 to complete their trip to Waikiki.  Passengers on routes 23 and 24 whose destination is Ala Moana Center will also need to transfer to route 8 to complete their trip.

Routes 201, 202, and 203 will be rerouted to enter Waikiki via Kapahulu.

inconvenient YES but its kind of cool knowing that the presidents of several COUNTRIES came to our island for some meetings. Hawaii and Oahu are getting major exposure which might just drive that little thing called TOURISM which Im pretty sure the village idi ots realize is keeping the boat afloat. and yes I got stuck in some pretty ridiculous traffic last night coming home from work. I didnt make it across the freeway overpass before pres Obama landed and got stuck on the wrong side of the freeway for about 45 minutes and there was no way home. I went to Walmart and got my Thanksgiving shopping done. Minah va gy nah cuzin

It's too bad that they didn't close down the whole city so everyone could get a week off of extra paid vacation courtesy of APEC.
