On Friday morning, the Russian President is expected to arrive.

And then late Friday night -- President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.

RUssian President Dmitri Medvedev is expected to arrive at Hickam Air Force base Friday morning.

Then from approximately 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., major roads including Nimitz or the H-1 Freeway will be closed in the townbound direction between the base past the Honolulu Airport and Waikiki.

More traffic jams are expected as Waikiki checkpoints get set up at Ala Moana Boulevard and at Lewers Street. These are both for pedestrians and drivers seeking access to the secure zones around the Hale Koa, Fort DeRussy, Hilton Hawaiian Village.

Then late Friday night around 10:35 p.m., President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama arrive, and once again the route to Waikiki will be shut down for their transit.

The first freeway closure of APEC week took place Thursday morning with the arrival of Chinese President Hu Jintao.

And that meant traffic jams from the airport area all the way to Waikiki.

The Chinese president arrived in Honolulu just after 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

Shortly after that, Honolulu police secured the H-1 Freeway by shutting down the onramps from the Airport Viaduct all the way to Waikiki.

The city is asking residents for patience and cooperation, especially as the major APEC events take place this weekend.

Most of the buses going through Waikiki will also be rerouted starting Friday, November 11.

City Press Release:

The Department of Transportation Services is alerting the public that APEC-related closures of Kapiolani Boulevard between Atkinson Drive and Kalakaua Avenue and Atkinson Drive between Kona Street and Kapiolani Boulevard will continue on Friday, November 11, 2011.  Accordingly, TheBus routes 3, 9, and A will continue to be detoured.

Security measures will be implemented on Ala Moana Boulevard, Koko Head of Atkinson Drive from 5 a.m. on Friday, November 11, 2011.  This will require implementation of the weekend bus detours involving TheBus routes 8, 19, 20, 42, E, 23, 24, 201, 202, and 203.

Routes 19, 20, 42, and E will terminate at Ala Moana Center instead of entering Waikiki.  Routes 23 and 24 will terminate in Waikiki instead of continuing to Ala Moana Center.  Route 8 will continue to connect Ala Moana Center and Waikiki except it will use Kalakaua Avenue to do so instead of Ala Moana Boulevard

All passengers on routes 19, 20, 42, and E will need to transfer to route 8 to complete their trip to Waikiki.  Passengers on routes 23 and 24 whose destination is Ala Moana Center will also need to transfer to route 8 to complete their trip.

Routes 201, 202, and 203 will be rerouted to enter Waikiki via Kapahulu.

Let's see this morning, went to Char Hang Sut, drop off friend across Aloha Tower Market around 7:30am, drove to Home Depot in Iwilei, and then took Nimitz then King Street to Kaimuki. At 4:00pm picked up friend across Aloha Tower Market, drove to Lowe's in Iwilei, then took H-1 to Lowe's in Waikele, then drove H-1 to Kaimuki. No problem. Why do we want to shut down the city? All this doom and gloom is keeping people off the streets. Keep up the good work!!!

On Honolulu.gov, why don't they put in an actual time they're putting out the Tweet? I keep reading tweets, but there's time stamps like 12 minutes ago, "Alert! Major road closures beginning." But, it's been there for over 30 minutes. I don't know when "12 minutes ago" is. They could say, "At 10a.m. H1 is closed." City officials have to keep us up to date with actual times, not letting us guess if it already happened. Yesterday, when the Chinese President arrived, he was already on H1 and tweet was "plane arriving." DUH!!!

Another news report said the road closures are until Nov. 15th. If APEC is pau on Sunday, 13th, why closures until 15th? The signs on freeways says expect delays until 13th. City, you're not getting updated reports, are you? So, they want to go galavanting around Oahu, that's why the residents have to sit in traffic wasting our $4 a gallon gas.

As these fools land at Hickam/Pearl Joint, why aren't they put on a ferry or small boat and floated around to Waikiki ???? Why does our mor_on Mayor C and his counterpart mor_on gov Abe shut down the friggin city ???? There's simpler ways, even more secure ways to get these fools to their Waikiki locations without shutting down the friggin city.... You people voted in one of the dumbest mayors and about the dumbest Gov you could find.

Why does the world leaders have to come here(China, Russia, USA)? All the other countries just send their representatives and not their leaders who causes traffic jams and shuts everything down just to vacation here. Let the workers do the work and APEC should never be held here again because this island is too small for something that big.
