You may not have known that big-game animals roam wild through the forests, flatlands and even the cliffsides of Niihau.
Niihau's owners bought stock from Molokai Ranch in recent years. Now elan, oreck and audad are among the animals that call Niihau home.
"Elan have done very well, audad are doing well," said island co-owner Bruce Robinson. "The oreck are still wondering whether they're going to make it or not."
Hunters are often allowed on-island for safaris. Any meat the hunters don't take is given to the village.
"If you compare them with the shots we see in Africa, these are much bigger animals because there are no predators,” Robinson said. “All they have to do is eat and sleep."
