Good Morning Olena and Jai. And welcome 2-day to Aloha Friday! Here are some of the stories making headlines on Maui this week.By now everyone has heard that another "end of an era" has come with the closing of pineapple operations for Maui Land and Pineapple Company. The company will likely keep pineapple as part of their name - but planting operations ended this week and harvesting will be complete by the end of the year. when the news hit like a ton of bricks on tuesday, messages of support and sympathy came from around the world - including Governor Linda Lingle on her tourism promotion trip to China. The governor promised the state's rapid response team would travel to Maui to deal with the expected layoff of 285 workers. And Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares, in her thoughts, even reflected on her days in high school when she worked in the pineapple fields of Hali'imaile. There's another industry that was also dealt a severe blow this week - but you don't hear anyone complaining - at least not out loudActing on a tip, Maui police got a warrant and intercepted a suspicious shipment from California. Inside the container was more than a pound and three ounces of cocaine. A 40 year-old Lahaina man was arrested, then when his car was searched, police found seven grams of marijuana and just under a gram of hashish. The street value of the seized cocaine was estimated at 54 thousand dollars. We've got the details on these stories plus ongoing updates of breaking news, special reports and extended coverage of many of our stories. That's it for this week's report.
